Teaching oral requests

Research in English language teaching has highlighted the importance of communication skills classroom. Against backdrop extensive research everyday communication, goal this was to explore whether current discourse analytic is reflected lessons and examples five textbooks, by using spoken requests as subject investigation. The textbooks were evaluated on criteria deriving from politeness, speech act theory conversation analysis. These included extent which discussed cultural appropriateness requests, relationship other contextual factors, explained pre-sequences re-requests provided adequate practice activities. This study found that none coursebooks covered all some actually had very inadequate lessons. results textbook analysis demonstrate teachers these designers future must improve their pragmatics authentic a guide.
